Default Rogers to Offer Rock & Rugby - 01-20-2009

Thanks to some excellent work by one of our trusty ninjas, we’ve got an early look at a couple of new handsets that are set to be announced early tomorrow morning on Rogers. The carrier is looking to beef up its line of ruggedized phones, adding both the Samsung Rugby A836 and ZTE Rock F165 to its stable. The Rugby sports 3G data, email/IM clients, HTML browser, and a 1.3 megapixel camera housed within a case built to withstand “dust, shock, vibration, rain, humidity, solar radiation, altitude, and temperature extremes”. Whoa. The ZTE Rock brings a bit more excitement into the mix, featuring wireless video calling compatibility, HSPA support, relatively hi-res screen, 128MB of internal storage, expandable to 2GB with a microSD card, and a 2 megapixel shooter. It also appears to be well fortified against external attack, though its exact specs in that arena are a bit less obvious than the Rugby’s. The Rugby will be available for $149.99 on a 3 year contract, with the ZTE Rock coming in at a lowly $79.99 on a similar prison term. All told, these look to be a pretty solid addition to Rogers excellent device lineup. Anyone looking to jump on board?

These guys are a little behind AT&T on this one. But I can speak for the Rugby. It is one durable ass phone. You can chuck that thing across the room and it will still function like no other. Reminds me of the 8700 days.
